“no one can be really esteemed accomplished, who does not greatly surpass what is usually met with. A woman must have a thorough knowledge of music, singing, drawing, dancing, and the modern languages, to deserve the word; and besides all this, she must possess a certain something in her address and expressions, of the word will be but half deserved.” – Miss Bingley (Pride and Prejudice, pg. 39, Penguin Classics. 2008.)
While we eventually forgive Mr. Darcy his prejudices – and certainly don’t disagree with his statement about “extensive reading” – we can’t quite get over what a snob Bingley’s sister is. We have our own opinion of what accomplished women are capable of in the twenty-first century, and it has everything to do with taking care of yourself. Inside and out.
We (Lauren and Christine) are two best friends and college roommates who after graduation found ourselves following jobs to different states. Lauren headed to Texas with her husband and two dogs while Christine packed up and headed to Delaware by herself.
No fear however for we have created this blog to keep in touch while sharing with you (the readers) our variety of hobbies, experiences, advice, and opinions!
Please read, comment, and enjoy the ramblings of two friends trying to learn about the grown up world!
I’m a homebody. There’s nothing I love more than lounging around with my husband and our two large, lazy dogs watching Mizzou’s Tigers. (Although, I will occasionally venture out and explore my new surroundings as I’m a recent DFW transplant – that’s Dallas-Fort Worth for all you non-Texans – and there are plenty of exciting places I’ve yet to discover.)
I’m a product junkie. I could easily spend way too much money trying new tinted lip balms and moisturizers I find in my massive piles of magazines.
I have a new found fascination with decorating. Now that I’ve got my first house I have a constantly growing list of DIY projects to make it into a home.
I love to cook. I enjoy making up semi-homemade recipes – I do have a full-time job after all – and breaking out my family’s favorites when I get homesick for Missouri.
So there you have it, I’m into all things girly and I’m learning to be a grown-up one home-improvement project at at time.
I’m currently living in Dover, Delaware working for the Air Force and learning to live on the East Coast (not as easy as it sounds for a Mid-West girl)! I am however a huge History/Learning nerd so I am super excited to start exploring!
I’m also a big reader. Reading is my zen time, my me time and is something that I must do to stay sane from my crazy busy life.
Working out is my new hobby, or at least I’m trying to make it be. I have to workout and stay in shape for my job so I figured I should enjoy the process! Some things are coming naturally (I’ve been a swimmer my whole life so I can do that all day!) while others are taking much effort and motivation (I despise running!)
I talk all the time and love to share stories and life experiences and this blog my way of talking too much but not annoying anyone who doesn’t want to listen!
