Holiday outfits seem to be broken up into two distinct categories: chic or cozy. I say, why not be both?  For most people staying warm is a concern and also being able to eat plates full of yummy Christmas treats while still being comfortable. I’ve got several options no matter what your plans may be. First if you’ve got big dinner plans and need more formal holiday attire I’m here to help you think outside the (red dress) box!

Chic Christmas

The red dress seems to be everyone’s go to when they need to dress up for a Christmas party.  Thankfully, I’ve come up with these three options are all just as festive and won’t have you matching every other woman there!

A sweater dress is a great, often overlooked option if you think you might get a little chilly.  By pairing it with boots and tights in either black or brown you’ll keep this style looking streamlined and sleek.  Just avoid flats, like riding boots, which can make this look too casual; wearing a bit of a heel allows you to look more elegant.  Just add some pretty earrings for a little extra sparkle.

If you want to go the cocktail dress route, go with an emerald green or even a blue to avoid blending into the Christmas scenery.  Since it’s the holidays you can get away with a little more personality.  Why not throw on some polka-dot tights and a snowflake necklace?  Cocktail attire doesn’t have to be stuffy so have some fun with your accessories.

Of course, sparkle is always a fun route when you’re getting dressed up and most girls would agree tis the season for a little glitz and glamour!  If you decide to play with sequins and glitter when it comes to your dress keep the rest of your ensemble simple.  Plain black tights and some cute ankle boots will let the focus stay on your fab dress . . . and keep you from looking like a walking Christmas tree!

Now if your Christmas gathering is just a casual get-together with family and friends, that doesn’t mean you can’t look fashionable.  Sure, it would be easy to just throw on some jeans and a sweatshirt but where’s the fun in that? Instead, try one of these equally comfy and oh so adorable combinations.

Cozy Christmas

Just start with your favorite leggings – I love VS Pink – and add a cozy, slouchy sweater.  Either flats or toasty boots with basic jewelry is all you need.  Of course, the topper is the most important part – just like on the tree – so have fun with it!  Fair Isle, sparkles, cable knits . . . I’m partial to the over the top reindeer sweater, but that’s just me!  They key to a slouchy sweater is looking festive not frumpy.  Go for length not width with these pieces so you keep covered in the right places without adding volume to your shape.  Since you’ll be surrounded by the people you love you don’t need to look all done up either.  Just a little mascara, tinted lip balm, and a few quick waves in your hair will have you looking picture perfect.
